The Silent Sparrow
Hello and welcome to my site! My name is Rebecca, and I am the owner of The Silent Sparrow. I studied Environmental Horticulture and English at the University of Maine where I currently teach. I started crafting, as a hobby, many years ago, but hadn't considered selling my work until relatively recently. All of the designs, both the jewelry and nature art, are my original work. Enjoy browsing! I hope you find something that speaks to you.

Handcrafted Work

Natural, recycled, and/or vintage materials are used to produce unique jewelry designs. These one-of-a-kind pieces are primarily made with stone beads in a variety of forms: polished, matte/frosted, raw, tumbled, faceted, and/or carved. Additionally, materials such as bone, horn, Kenyan river amber, wood, metal, shell, freshwater pearl, clay, ceramic, and glass in numerous forms: blown, sand, powder, lampwork, uranium, recycled, or millefiori are used to enhance these designs.

The Nature Art is composed of preserved butterflies which are sourced from breeders and farms. Dried flowers are sourced for variety. The butterflies and flowers are then pressed in frames. Little to no glue is used in this process as it can create hard lumps which cause damage to the butterflies and flowers.
Shadowboxes are also used, however, they are only available at live events due to their delicate nature. Along with butterflies, shadowboxes include such insects as damselflies, dragonflies, jewel beetles, cicadas, and honeybees.
